FTU questions Ministry’s decision to call teachers unaffected by flooding back to work

FTU questions Ministry’s decision to call teachers unaffected by flooding back to work
FTU General Secretary Agni Deo Singh.

The Fiji Teachers Union is questioning the Ministry of Education’s decision to call teachers unaffected by flooding back to school.

The Ministry has also said that teachers who are unable to travel to school due to flooding can work from home.

FTU General Secretary Agni Deo Singh says closing the school is a good decision however they are surprised that teachers have been told to report to school unless they are affected by flooding.

Singh says the Ministry does not understand that teachers are also affected and they should be allowed to stay home until the weather clears.

He says they do not understand what teachers are going to do in school when the students are at home.

Singh says the decision should be reviewed.

He adds teachers should be treated like everyone in the country who are affected by the bad weather.

Singh also says some teachers have to travel long to reach their school.

We have sent questions to the Ministry of Education regarding the concerns raised by the FTU and are awaiting their response.
