Fijian Teachers Association and Fiji Teachers Union Spokesperson Muniappa Goundar say for this National Budget, the government should give a different pay for the Assistant Principals and Head of the Department.
Goundar says currently, the Assistant Principals and the Head of Department are at the same level of salary.
He asks how can that be the case because the APs look after the general running of the school and have more on the human resources side to monitor while the HODs look after their department.
He says another issue is the Assistant Head Teacher position in the primary schools that was removed by the former government.
He further says they are expecting differences in variation for those positions after the announcement of the budget since all these issues have been considered by the Ministry of Education.
Goundar also highlighted the allowance of teachers such as boarding and relocation allowances is another factor that they want to increase since they are part of the review of the General Orders.
$845 million was allocated in the current budget for the Ministry of Education.
The 2024/2025 National Budget will be delivered at 10am on June 28th.
