The Fiji Roads Authority confirms that they had given the approval permit for the youth climate march for Saturday from Takashi Suzuki Garden to My Suva Park along Nasese between 10.30am to 11.30am.
Acting CEO Kamal Prasad says due to the ongoing roadworks, the march was approved for the use of footpath and berm only.
Prasad says as part of FRA’s condition, the applicant must also seek approval from the Fiji Police Force.
He adds this was clearly stipulated in the letter of approval.
About 100 people were part of the march to raise their voice about climate change and support the Government’s efforts at the COP26 climate conference.
They had gathered on Saturday morning to march to My Suva Park when Police officers arrived.
Police say there was no permit issued by them for the march and it was relayed to senior members part of the march that they needed a permit issued by Police in consultation with the Fiji Roads Authority and the relevant municipal council.
