Many young people today are graduating and finding difficulties in securing employment.
According to the Minister for Education, Premila Kumar this has been an ongoing issue and universities need to re-look at their strategies to assist students in their choice of studies.
At the Fiji National University Council, Kumar urged senior executives and stakeholders to consider what the demands are from students and also from the labour market.
Kumar says the marketing of tertiary programmes are great however the students may not be aware that jobs in their choice of studies may not have jobs available adding that this is evident in the teaching field.
The Education Minister says secondary schools and tertiary institutions will need to work to create awareness among students of the job opportunities and the field of studies that lead to areas that have a demand in the labour force.
