Now that the price of ghee will come under price control, the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is undertaking a comprehensive review of the supply chain and process related costs prior to confirming the maximum factory price.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica confirmed in Parliament that ghee is under price control because there was some very irregular pricing that was seen during Diwali.
FCCC is yet to confirm what the price will be and when it will come into effect, however it is expected to be confirmed in the next two weeks.
They say through collaboration, they saw the price of 750 ml ghee reduced from a peak of $31.99 to as low as $17.95.
FCCC says this meant that the intended benefits for consumers were passed on.
They have thanked the Government for agreeing with FCCC’s recommendation to institute price regulation over ghee given the price gouging issues they had noted.
