Empowering autistic voices ensures meaningful participation in shaping a more inclusive society- Tabuya
Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection - Fiji

As we mark World Autism Awareness Day, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya says by empowering autistic voices, we not only celebrate their unique perspectives but also ensure their meaningful participation in shaping a more inclusive society.

She says we need to continue to promote acceptance, support, and opportunities for all individuals with autism to thrive and contribute their talents to our communities.

Tabuya says the Ministry is also honoured to support the work being carried out by the Pacific Autism Centre in providing support services for autistic children and their parents.

The Minister highlighted that there is a need to create more awareness of autistic spectrum disorder in Fiji to encourage a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with autism therefore the Ministry commits to this cause in efforts to continue its work in championing acceptance, understanding, and empowerment for all.

Pacific Autism Centre Director, Merina George shared that the centre's goal was to empower parents with knowledge and resources to better understand and nurture their children's unique needs.

She says the Centre also serves parents and children in the Pacific region and is also engaged in enhancing the capabilities of teachers in Fiji's 17 special schools as their capacity-building initiatives for teachers ensure that every autistic student receives the quality care and education they deserve.

She says together we should build a world where every voice is heard and valued.
