The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro and his Assistant Minister, Iliesa Vanawalu met with the Heads of Schools and the teachers of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM), Jai Narayan College (JNC) and Adi Cakobau School (ACS), where they were updated with the current major projects being carried out in the schools.

This is part of the Ministers' visit to schools in the Central Division.

The Ministry says the primary goal of the visit was to learn more about the progress of the schools with regard to their performance, students and teachers alike.

They say the visit was also an opportune time for the leaders of the schools to address matters such as the Year 9 enrolment process in accordance with the Ministry’s Zoning Policy and the allocation of funds, in particular, the building grant.

They also say since certain schools have been established with a specific goal in mind, suggestions were made to change the enrolment criteria.

The Heads of Schools of the three schools and Management also commented on the delay of the turn-around time of the Ministry’s current processes to support schools, which was impeding progress on major projects, teacher replacements, and establishment of new streams and introduction of new subjects.

The Ministry says a proposal was made for further consultations between the Ministry and the management of the schools after concerns over the review of the School Management Handbook were also raised.

The Ministers and their entourage stopped by the Nausori Education Office before calling it a day.

The school visits will continue today and tomorrow to schools in the districts of Nausori, Ra, Ba, Tavua and Lautoka-Nadi-Yasawa.
