Construction Industry Council President, Gordon Jenkins says we have a shortage of skilled workers in Fiji and we can overcome this by educating our own because we have the manpower and we need to up-skill them.
Jenkins says we need to train our own people to do this work rather than going offshore to get it.
He says some construction companies are bringing in workers from other countries as it maybe the cheaper option.
When asked on how the construction industry is doing, Jenkins says unfortunately they had a bit of a shutdown because of COVID-19, but it’s progressing.
He says after their Construction Industry Council Conference they project that things should be almost back to what it was by next year.
