It is concerning the way some drivers are behaving on our roads and this has also cost the precious lives of 19 people so far this year and many severely injured.
According to statistics provided by police, 19 lives have been lost on our roads this year compared to 11 for the same period last year.
It has been noticed that speeding, dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, running the red light and late night accidents continue to be a major concern.
Another emerging concern is people driving while grog doped.
Earlier this month, a 1-year-old girl, a man and a woman lost their lives in two separate accidents in Ba. The two accidents occurred at 1.30am and 1am respectively.
In one case, the driver allegedly fell asleep while in the second case, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
Another life was lost this week and several passengers of a bus received serious injuries following a road accident along Vakabuli Road in Drasa, Lautoka after the bus veered off the road and hit a post.
Running of red lights is also a major concern.
This has been noticed at Victoria Parade in Suva on a daily basis and some drivers are giving no regard to road rules and are putting their, and other people’s lives at great risk.
