People turned up in numbers with their dogs today to be part of the Tim Howick-Smith Thousand Paw Walk at Albert Park in Suva.
Pet owner Mercy, who took part in the walk, says many people forget that dogs do not have a voice, and events like this are a great way for them to socialise and enjoy themselves.
Mercy brought her dog, Bear, along to the event and says it was also a good opportunity to raise awareness about animal welfare and cruelty prevention, while supporting rescue and desexing programmes.
She says this is the time of year when pet owners can bring their dogs to enjoy fun activities, including fashion shows and various competition categories.
Mercy adds that the event brings people together, and that’s what motivates her to take part each year.
She also shared that her father calls it the “Dog Festival,” a name she believes perfectly captures the spirit of the event.
Mercy is encouraging the public to join next year’s walk, saying it’s a fun and meaningful day out for both families and their pets.
Meanwhile, Bobby and Rani won the Best Dressed Award for their Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma disguise, while Sasha the dog was crowned Prettiest Girl.
