Dialogue underway to ban Pseudoephedrine in the country
Minister of Health Doctor Atonio Lalabalavu

Minister of Health Doctor Atonio Lalabalavu is currently having dialogue with various Ministries and stakeholders regarding the ban of Pseudoephedrine in the country and has not given any time frame on when this will come into effect.

He says they need to consider certain factors like the current stock of Pseudoephedrine available.

Doctor Lalabalavu told fijivillage News that he needs to talk with the technical people in this regard.

He says the move involves dialogue with the suppliers and monitoring the capabilities and capacity of the Ministry, hence the need for wider consultation.

He adds his team is talking with all pharmacists to address this issue and once all these factors are confirmed he will give a definite time on their next course of action.

He says they are aware of the issues surrounding hard drugs in Fiji and that they are being produced locally.

There have been ongoing concerns about methamphetamine being cooked in parts of Fiji including some maritime islands.

Many people have been calling on the government to take urgent action as these ingredients can be bought from pharmacies.
