Daniel Whippy to take his plea this afternoon to allow his travel to the US for knee treatment

Carpenters Fiji Managing Director, Daniel Whippy is to take his plea at 4pm today as this is one of the conditions raised by FICAC to allow him to travel to the United States for his knee stem cell treatment.

FICAC’s Senior State Counsel, Sera Fatafehi had initially objected to bail as the manner in which the application was made was suspicious.

Fatafehi also says that Whippy had not confirmed that he suffered from a knee injury earlier.

Whippy's lawyer King's Counsel Stephen Stanton says Whippy has the right to health under the Constitution.

FICAC had consented giving bail to Whippy on the grounds that he take his plea, each of the sureties provide a cash bond of $20,000 each and $50,000 given by Whippy earlier as a sign of good faith remain at the registry.

It was also noted in Court that Whippy was allowed to travel overseas three times after being charged without any objection from FICAC.

A means test of the sureties will be taken this afternoon.
