Danger zone : Pac Harbour Fire Station closes this Friday due to NFA relocation issues

Pacific Harbour Fire Station is closing down as the plot is owned by Damodar Yatu Lau Pte Limited which has taken it back for development and the residents will be served by the Navua Fire Station from this Friday.

Serious concerns are being raised by National Fire Authority CEO Puamau Sowane, who says this is out of their control as the company insisted the NFA Fire Station moves out.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Sowane says they were given three months to vacate, however, that is not enough time to construct a new facility.

He says they had asked for assistance from the company to search for a new location because they were the ones who wanted the service and had given them a facility, and now, after NFA has invested in equipment and manpower, they are telling them to move away and look for another place.

Sowane says their team was in the Pacific Harbour area trying to find a suitable facility, however, the rent is extremely expensive and a temporary plan was also presented to him, but its cost is also very high and is around $150,000.

The CEO says he does not want to spend money on temporary facilities and are instead focusing on building a proper fire station so they do not have to relocate again.

He says plans are underway to construct a new facility in August, the beginning of the new financial year in Makosoi.

When contacted, Damodar Group CEO Div Damodar refused to comment but says they will be calling a press conference on Thursday.
