The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, has expressed strong support for the development of the medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji.
While leading a medicinal cannabis task force meeting, Kamikamica emphasised that this industry presents a significant opportunity for Fiji's economic prosperity.
He highlighted the importance of pursuing this initiative correctly to ensure sustainable growth, job creation, and positioning Fiji as a leader in the medicinal cannabis sector, which is crucial for the nation's future.
Key representatives from various government ministries and agencies involved in the task force were briefed on the outcomes of consultations and a feasibility study was conducted on the potential development of the medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji.
Kamikamica stated that the Ministry would collaborate with the Office of the Solicitor-General to draft Medicinal Cannabis legislation, aiming to promote economic diversification in Fiji.
