Customary fishing rights owners should consider benefits of employing good fishing practices - Koroilavesau
Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau.

Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau says he wants to urge the customary fishing rights owners, the iTaukei to consider the benefits of employing good fishing practices as all it takes is a reckless decision that would cost our resources.

Koroilavesau says there is a great need to preserve, be wise and think of the future of our children.

While responding to the President’s opening address, the Minister for Fisheries says the importance of legislation enforcement and prosecution will need to be strengthened.

Koroilavesau says his ministry is also working closely with the tourism sector for the establishment of marine manager risk and marine protected areas.

Meanwhile, Koroilavesau adds through the assistance of the Japanese Government, they will be installing eight solar units in Yasawa as means of improved livelihoods for those that have been displaced or have lost employment.

He says additional projects include the installation of the Rabi solar ice plant project and eco-refrigerant project for Savusavu and Vunisea.
