Neeru Christopher and Areieta Tiaon thought they would never see each other again after their fishing trip turned into a four-day fight for survival in open waters during Tropical Cyclone Ana.
The cousins had left Vatuwaqa, Suva for a fishing trip on the 28th of last month and their boat capsized.
They had managed to swim to an uninhabited island near Dravuni in Kadavu but they were on different sides.
The two were eventually rescued by the villagers of Dravuni in Kadavu.
Christopher says they are grateful for the villagers for keeping them safe.
He further says he thought Tiaon had passed away.
He adds they never slept on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Acting Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu deployed a team of officers led by the Chief Operations Officer ACP Abdul Khan to traditionally thank the people of Dravuni for looking after the two men and to safely escort the duo to Suva on the MV Veiqaravi.
Also part of the delegation were two family members who wanted to personally thank the people of Dravuni for their hospitality and kindness in looking after their loved ones.
