The Nadi and Lautoka Magistrates Courts along with the Small Claims Tribunal and other Tribunals in Lautoka and Nadi have been closed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the community.

Only urgent matters such as the accused being called for the first time, remandees brought to court, applications for Habeas Corpus, absconding warrants, DVRO applications, child recovery cases, ex-parte applications and those approved by the Office of the Chief Justice, Chief Registrar or Chief Magistrate will be dealt by the courts.

Acting Chief Justice Kamal Kumar says all other matters listed for hearing, mention, pre-trial conference or any other reason will be vacated and fresh dates will be assigned.

Kumar says senior court officers in liaison with Judicial Officers will exercise their discretion of the mention date in due course.
