Council refers matter to OHS Dept where a child was seriously injured at a children’s play centre
Consumer Council of Fiji CEO, Seema Shandil

The Consumer Council of Fiji has referred a matter to the Occupational Health and Safety Department where a child sustained serious injuries at a prominent children's play centre in Suva.

Council’s CEO, Seema Shandil says from their investigation, they have found the centre was not OHS compliant and throughout their investigation, they have kept the OHS officer in the loop.

She says since the child's injury was serious, the children's play centre paid for his surgery but the family still wants to be compensated. Shandil says the Council has referred it to the appropriate authority.

According to the Consumer Council of Fiji, the child was playing in a kid’s spinner type equipment when a metal part from the equipment seriously injured the child.

Shandil says if parents come across any hazardous condition in play centres that may place the health and safety of any child at risk, they should immediately raise it with their staff.

If not rectified immediately, parents should report it to the Council on the toll-free number 155 or through the Consumer Council of Fiji mobile app.
