The Fiji Corrections Service Rehabilitation team is currently conducting an evaluation of all its programs in the various Corrections Centres.
Corrections Service says the team led by its Director Superintendent Waisale Soqonakalou began in the Central Division early this week and are now currently in the Western Division from.
They say this week, the Commissioner, Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa announced a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at overhauling the their organisational structure and operations.
He says they are committed to ensuring that the correctional facilities not only provide safe and secure custody of offenders but also effectively rehabilitate them for reintegration into society as productive, law-abiding citizens.
Director Superintendent Waisale Soqonakalou says it is important to continuously evaluate the rehabilitation programs to suit the changing criminal landscape.
He says the generational shift in criminal behavior means they must always keep their core business of rehabilitation in check to ensure we treat the offending behaviours of those who come into our care.
Corrections Service says this was also discussed at length in the recent roundtable discussions with members of the Diplomatic Corp.
They say the team, which also comprised of FCS psychologists also visited service providers and government youth officers in the Western Division to discuss how the programs inside prison can be improved.
