Contractor adopts Yadua Island Primary School under Adopt A School Program

Good news for students of Yadua Island Primary School after a contractor adopted their school under the Ministry of Education Adopt a School Program to rebuild the damages caused by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

Yadua Island Primary School on Yadua Island in Bua is one of the 59 schools identified by the Ministry of Education that was severely affected during the cyclone.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar says the contractor is going to rebuild 1 by 3 classrooms that was damaged by the cyclone.

Akbar says they are going to have a preliminary meeting with the contractor next week.

She says they have also sent out expressions of interest for Lekutu Secondary School where 9 classrooms were damaged.

The Minister adds the Ministry will rebuild a 1 by 3 semi-permanent classroom for Dawa Primary School and Bua District School while the Government starts planning for the rebuilding of a permanent school building.

She says the Ministry funded the works from their own budget with the assistance from the Australian Defence Forces.

Akbar says for other schools which also sustained damages, the Ministry put up 80 learning spaces or tents including some used as teachers' quarters.

She says she has got a report that 3 tents are being used as teachers' quarters.
