The containment checkpoint near Rups Nakasi has been lifted as the Suva and Nausori containment zones have been merged into one for the lockdown period that has started and will end at 4am on Wednesday the 19th of May.
Acting Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu says as they will be lifting the checkpoint, they have met with relevant people to clarify the legal issues that may arise.
Tudravu says he is concerned with people social gathering to drink kava and alcohol.
Tudravu says they have noted that it is mostly youths that are arrested for these offences as they may not be able to consume kava and alcohol at their homes.
He is urging people to adhere to the guidelines in place as arresting people is the last option.
Tudravu says as we enter this critical lockdown period to arrest the movement of the virus, it is important people stay within their bubbles.
He further says arresting people is their last resort.
More than 700 people have been arrested since April 19th for breaching health restrictions and curfew orders.
