Good news for the villagers of Saliadrau in Namosi as the work on their new bridge has started.
The villagers have been knocking on the government's door for the past 20 years for this issue to be rectified.
Speaking to fijivillage news, Saliadrau Village headman, Kusitino Vuate says crossing the river every day is a challenge for them.
Vuate says whenever there is heavy rain, children do not attend school, and no one can access the road.
He says in June last year, the Japanese government gave more than $200,000 as aid to construct the bridge.
The village headman says with collaboration from the villagers, donors and the government, the first phase of construction has started.
He adds that any community collaboration requires commitment and perseverance to achieve our needs and for the betterment of our future.
