Concerns have been raised by Fijians contracted under the Pacific Labour Mobility Scheme of the non-formalisation of employment issues on employer-employee dealings.

Minister for Employment Agni Deo Singh says that written communication is an evidence-based method used for ensuring the transparent mechanisms of welfare workers are protected and it will minimise misunderstanding, and establish stronger trust to protect the interest of worker and employer.

Singh reminded the Fijian workers of the importance of effective communication in maintaining positive working relationships, and seeking clarity and transparency in such dealings.

He adds that the Australian Employment laws equally apply to them, and reminded them to exhaust the grievance procedures shared during the pre-departure briefing and encouraged them not to disengage their contractual agreement and visa arrangement.

Singh further emphasised that re-engagement under the scheme is determined by the individual workers' performance and working relationships with the employer.

The ministerial team held discussions with workers deployed to Narogin, Katanning, southwest and Busselton in Perth, Western Australia.
