Concerns raised after people seen begging or hassling others for cigarettes and alcohol around Samabula

Serious concerns are being raised as some elderly women and men, some on wheelchairs are staying on the streets, begging and drinking alcohol around the Samabula Post Office area.

A concerned member of the public has told fijivillage News that some people are also hassling others for cigarettes and alcohol.

This is also happening near the Samabula Police Station.

Director Social Protection, Veremo Muria says they are looking into the matter.

He says their profiling work continues and they will be checking if those who have been seen around the Samabula area have already been profiled.

Muria adds they will be investigating to see if these people are on any social protection scheme, have families to go back home to or if they can be re-homed in old age homes.
