As concerns are being raised about speeding along Queen’s Highway, traffic officers are conducting operations throughout the country and known red spots every day which includes snap checks and breathalyzer tests.
fijivillage has noted vehicles, especially trucks speeding on the highway.
Police Chief Operations Officer, ACP Abdul Khan says 18,342 traffic infringement notices were issued for speeding between January to April this year.
He says Southern and Western Divisions recorded the highest number of cases with 5,934 and 8,238 notices issued respectively.
Khan says the onus is on drivers as well to abide by the speed limits in place.
He says it’s a known fact that speeding kills, and therefore drivers should take all the necessary precautionary measures to keep them safe whilst on Fiji’s roads.
Khan adds road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
