The CEO of the Savusavu Town Council, Seema Dutt says the commotion at the Savusavu Market earlier this week was caused by an outsider and not a market vendor.
Dutt says all market vendors were advised through a meeting last week that all dry goods vendors will be shifted in one section while vegetable vendors will be moved to another section.
She says the stalls were successfully shifted on Sunday.
Dutt further says a person who claimed to be the brother of a vendor who is stuck in Suva started raising issues with council staff and started removing items from the stall. She says the issue has been resolved and all vendors are happy with their relocation in the market.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Fiji Council of Social Services, Vani Catanasiga says the Council should ensure there is enough dialogue with market vendors.
She says they are hoping the leaders and officials are engaging with people through dialogue because these are difficult times and we need to work respectfully with market vendors.
