The Coalition Government is reducing its budget on things like kalavata (matching traditional outfits) and big feasts that are usually organised by government officials as it does not look good to be enjoying these privileges but yet, we witness some degree of poverty on our streets, villages and informal settlements.
This was highlighted by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka when asked by fijivillage News on his comments about government officials to stop having kalavata in big events during the 2023 Fiji Sports Awards.
Rabuka refused to wear a kalavata that was provided to him for the sports awards last Saturday.
He says it is incongruent to the scene we see around as a nation.
