Phil Foden, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne scored a goal each for City while Callum Hudson-Odoi got a late consolation for Chelsea.
City has moved to 5th on the points table with a game in hand.
In an earlier match this morning, Leicester City beat Newcastle United 2-1.
