Tests being conducted at Health facilities – Dr Devi

Church leaders call for nationwide HIV tests
Ministry of Health’s Head of Family Health, Doctor Rachael Devi

Some church leaders are calling for a nationwide test in light of the alarming statistics released with 552 new HIV cases recorded from January to June which included 85 cases of people using injectable drugs.

The Government and various Ministries earlier stressed that people need to work together to bring down this surge in HIV cases, and church leaders need to talk to their respective congregations.

Certain Church Pastors have voiced their concerns on social media requesting the government to conduct a nationwide blood test.

While speaking at a training session at the Fiji National University Campus in Tamavua for the enumerators who will begin an immunization coverage survey, Ministry of Health’s Head of Family Health, Doctor Rachael Devi says they are currently conducting tests around Health facilities in the country and are pleading with people to come forward and get tested.

Doctor Devi says it is very encouraging to see people come forward and get tested because they feel they were at risk at certain stages.

She highlighted that we can be the change and help contain the increase of these statistics.
