China has raised serious security concerns after the construction of a six storey apartment called The Grand, right next to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China located along Queen Elizabeth Drive in Suva.
fijivillage News has received confirmation that Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian met with Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka earlier this week.
Construction of the apartment building was approved by the former FijiFirst led government.
It is owned by Western Homes Limited Managing Director, Bobby Khan.
When questioned by fijivillage News, Prime Minister Rabuka confirms that the Chinese Ambassador raised some issues touching on Host Countries responsibilities for Foreign Diplomatic Missions’ Security Concerns as dictated by applicable international conventions.
Rabuka confirms the Fijian government is reviewing the various processes in the acquisition and building permits granted for The Grand.
There are serious security concerns that those in the six storey complex can look into the Embassy, and can also use high tech devices to even spy on people at the Chinese Embassy.
We have also sent questions to the Chinese Ambassador and are awaiting their response.
