Charging fees to enter nightclubs may restrict people from entering a particular club and going to other clubs.

Albert Chand of Deep Sea Nightclub says although charging fees may be a good idea to some extent to address criminal issues but not everyone will be able to pay for it as most people are already affected by the pandemic.

He says the onus is on the owners whether to charge fees or not.

This is after a member of the public during the nightclub hours consultation suggested that nightclubs should charge entrance fees to avoid youths and reduce people from going to the clubs. They say this will also reduce crime and groups of people loitering in town and causing trouble when drunk.

Meanwhile, Fiji Performing Rights Association Director Seru Serevi says operators should invest in having musicians or bands to provide entertainment while Jeremiah Palako says loud music in the clubs are mostly about sex which makes no sense.
