There is chaos in Port Moresby as videos and images emerge with armed men, believed to be opportunists, taking advantage of the election-related incident yesterday.
Pnghausbung reports that Police say the areas affected were Gordons, Enima, Waigani, Hohola, Tokarara, Koki, 2 Mile, Rainbow and Gerehu to name a few.
Many schools in the city are closed, while parents of open schools have been advised for early pickups and drop-offs.
Police are trying their best to contain the situation and restore order in the NCD.
Chief of Operations Donald Yamasombi confirms the City Superintendent, Gideon Ikumu is in a meeting with representatives from Correctional Services and PNG Defence to decide the next course to take to address the situation.
Yamasombi says the violence in some areas of the city is slowing down and hopes everything eases by this afternoon with security teams moving around to maintain order.
