Cases of unlawful possession of illicit drugs registered daily – ACP Driu

18 reports were registered from the 18th till today from all five divisions, including a farm where plants believed to be marijuana were uprooted.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu says cases of unlawful possession of illicit drugs continue to be registered daily and the most common are seizures of marijuana with the majority of the arrests made of suspects in their 20s and 30s.

He says aside from the seizures made as a result of snap search and house raids, marijuana farms are also being found as a result of information sharing. The Assistant Commissioner for Operations says in addition to the seizure of marijuana, there have also been a few seizures of methamphetamine.

He says community support has been evident in recent weeks as more requests are received for awareness to be conducted by police officers, in partnership with various stakeholders.

ACP Driu says concurrently, officers are continuously reminded of the need to maintain trust in policing efforts on the war on drugs, by being part of the solution, and not the problem.

He says they understand that in order to maintain the trust of the public they need to uphold the integrity of policing by enforcing a zero tolerance on police officers, and this is enforced by means of an internal and criminal investigation.
