COI seeks meeting with PM over Malimali’s objection to Saumi’s access to FICAC files

COI seeks meeting with PM over Malimali’s objection to Saumi’s access to FICAC files

The Commission of Inquiry is hoping to meet with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka tomorrow regarding an email from the Commissioner of FICAC, Barbara Malimali which they received yesterday.

The email objects to former FICAC Manager of Investigations Kuliniasi Saumi accessing files and records at FICAC.

Malimali terminated Saumi and had said it was an employment matter and has no connection to the Commission of Inquiry into her appointment.

She also highlighted that they are yet to respond to Malimali’s email.

She adds their concern is whether Malimali might override the assurances previously given to them.

Senior Legal Counsel Janet Mason says they expect to wrap up the investigation by next week.

Mason adds the Chief Registrar is scheduled to give his statement next Monday as he is currently out of the country.
