The 33-year-old businessman charged with one count of bribery has been released on bail.
Kelvin Vinod is alleged to have offered Police officers thousands of dollars to avoid being charged following an accident.
The alleged incident occurred last week in Nausori when Vinod was allegedly involved in an accident where he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Vinod is on $5,000 cash bail and Nausori Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne has ordered Vinod not to interfere with witnesses and to surrender his travel documents.
A stop departure order has also been issued.
In his submission, DPO East Yasin Ali strongly objected to bail saying there was a possibility Vinod would interfere with witnesses.
Ali further said a substantial amount was offered in the form of bribery adding it was also in the interest of the public and justice to deter others from committing the same offence.
Vinod was earlier charged with one count of drunk driving and one count of dangerous driving.
The case will be called again the 31st of this month.
