Bus operators and drivers to ensure pre-checks and proper service and maintenance carried out - LTA

The Land Transport Authority is alarmed and concerned about the number of accidents involving buses in the Western Division, the second of which resulted in 74 students of Delana Primary School and one adult being injured.

LTA Acting CEO, Irimaia Rokowasa says bus operators and drivers must ensure that necessary pre-checks are carried out before they begin their trips and ensure that proper service and maintenance are carried out.

Rokowasa says it is important that drivers are trained in identifying risk scenarios and mitigation actions, while members of the public are requested to understand the importance of being alert while they travel on our roads.

He says they are working towards standardising travel safety in public transportation and ensuring that incidents such as bus mishaps are mitigated.

The Acting CEO is advising drivers to be responsible and to look after the safety of their passengers.

He is also reminding drivers to exercise safe and composed driving practices, and develop their driving skills in mitigating risk scenarios.

The Land Transport Authority saysthey will work closely with bus operators to ensure they prevent such incidents.
