People living in parts of Ba to Navesau in Rakiraki are facing power disruptions due to burnt EFL power poles because of an uncontrolled bush fire in Qalitu, Lautoka along the 33,000 volts transmission line, which evacuates power supply from the Vuda Zone Substation to Rarawai Zone Substation in Ba all the way to the Volivoli Zone Substation in Rakiraki.
Affected people are in parts of Ba, whole of Tavua, Vatukoula, Nadarivatu and Rakiraki areas, apart from Rakiraki Town, Hospital and surrounding areas.
EFL’s Acting CEO Bobby Naimawi says the burnt power poles affect their ability to transmit power from EFL’s Vuda Zone Substation to the Rarawai Zone, Vatukoula, Tavua and the Volivoli Zone Substations in Rakiraki
Naimawi says their teams have been mobilized and are currently in the process of creating the access road to transport materials to replace the burnt power poles.
He adds power supply to all the affected areas is expected to be restored later today, weather permitting.
EFL is requesting people who live along the sugar cane belt areas or along sugar cane farm residences to take extra precautionary measures when lighting up fires.
