Bureau of Stats completes Employment and Unemployment Survey, report expected mid 2025
Fiji Bureau of Statistics CEO Kemueli Naiqama

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics has completed its Employment and Unemployment Survey last month, wrapping up a data collection activity that took a year to complete.

Fiji Bureau of Statistics CEO Kemueli Naiqama says the next step is to clean up the data, analyze the information gathered, and prepare a report on the employment and unemployment status of the country by mid-next year.

Naiqama says in 2017 the unemployment rate was around 4.5 percent.

He says this survey will provide more detailed insights into the employment and unemployment rates, which will help the government identify areas that need strengthening, particularly in terms of job opportunities.

Naiqama says this includes sectors affected by migration, where workforce gaps have been a persistent challenge.

The CEO also highlighted the data will be broken down into disaggregated levels, including age groups, to identify which age group has the highest unemployment rates.

Naiqama adds the next national survey they are preparing for is the 2025-2026 Household Income and Expenditure Survey.
