The Blues have returned to the top of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific table after thrashing the Highlanders 47-13 last night in Eden Park.
While there is a long, long way to go before they can dream of ending a 21-year drought for a major title, belief is growing.
Without All Blacks such as Hoskins Sotutu, Mark Telea, Patrick Tuipulotu and Rieko Ioane, they were too strong for the Highlanders and dominated the physical contest again.
They could meet in the quarterfinals but are not likely to compete if the Blues were to be at full strength.
The Blues retained the Gordon Hunter Memorial Trophy and improved their record to 11-1 ahead of the play-offs. They are guaranteed to host a quarterfinal in June.
The Blues play the Crusaders in Christchurch next Saturday, while the Highlanders host the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in Dunedin next Sunday.
