A 49-year-old bee farmer from Nakorotubu in Ra has trained a total of 275 people on proper bee keeping methods since 2020.

Alusio Vumainabuke says pilots, lawyers and even people from Suva went to attend his training.

Vumainabuke says right now he is conducting training to help farmers look after their bees as it is a very sustainable income earner where returns are also high.

He says one box in bee farming can fill a 15kg bucket with honey which cost around $20 per kilo.

Vumainabuke adds they have to harvest at least two buckets a day and it can only take 15 minutes in harvesting one box.

Vumainabuke says bee keeping is different from other livestock farming where farmers need to look for food for their livestock, but bees look for their own food.
