Banks advise elderly social welfare recipients not to provide their bank card or disclose the PIN to a third party

The Association of Banks of Fiji, on behalf of all commercial Banks, advises that as part of the terms and conditions for the use of bank-issued cards for Electronic Transactions, account holders, as a security measure, must not provide their card and/or disclose Personal Identification Number (PIN) to a third party.

Chairman, Rakesh Ram says customers are asked to contact their respective banks should they require any further clarification.

Ram clarifies that the banks are aware that where the Social Welfare Department has elderly recipients, banks have authorised the opening of joint accounts so that another person (duly approved by the Department) can assist in accessing the social welfare payment for that elderly recipient.

For such accounts, each person has been issued with a card and the PIN must not be shared with any other third party.
