Former SODELPA MP Simione Rasova

Former SODELPA MP Simione Rasova's bail has been extended.

Rasova's hearing was today, where he appeared before Magistrate Pulekani Low.

The first State witness, Viniana Namosimalua, who is the former Parliament Secretary General, told the court that her office received the letter from Rasova informing them of his change of permanent residence on May 2nd, 2019.

She also read the letter in court highlighting that the former MP's permanent residence had changed to Nasenivolau, Nabouwalu Village, Ono, Kadavu.

A supporting letter from the Turaga Ni Koro confirming Rasova's change in permanent residential address was also put forth as evidence.

When questioned by FICAC lawyer, Josann Pene on her understanding of permanent residency, Namosimalua says it is a place of residence for the purpose of settling or living there permanently.

Magistrate Low told both counsels that this case would be heard every day and could go up till 8pm.

Rasova is charged with one count of providing false information to a public servant, allegedly lying about his residence, and obtaining a financial gain.

He is alleged to have falsely stated that his permanent place of residence was in Nasenivolau, Nabouwalu village, Ono, Kadavu and obtained $21,350 in parliamentary allowances between July 2019 and April 2020.

The case has been adjourned to 12pm tomorrow.
