Australian resident Tajini Vakaloloma has been remanded by Magistrate Jone Bale in a special sitting at the Nasinu Magistrates Court for assaulting a Cityline Buses driver on Thursday.

Vakaloloma is charged with one count of assault and has waived his right to counsel.

The Police Prosecutor informed the court that the case is a reconciliation offence, however, there has been no indication from the victim.

The Prosecutor also objected to bail, stating that Vakaloloma holds permanent residency in Australia and is therefore unlikely to attend court proceedings.

She further says that this is a public interest case, as the alleged assault involved a PSV driver.

During the proceedings, Vakaloloma asked Magistrate Bale if he could be released the same day.

However, the Magistrate told him that it was not possible, as he is facing a serious offence.

The Magistrate asked him to file a formal bail application.

The matter has been adjourned to October 14th.
