The Australian Government has provided vital medical equipment to hospitals in Fiji for safe and quality care for mothers and their babies, to support the growing number of midwifery and obstetric care needs in the country.

The hospitals that were provided with the equipment include the CWM Hospital, Labasa Hospital, Nadi Maternity Unit, Sigatoka Hospital, Savusavu Hospital, Makoi Birthing Unit, and Nausori Maternity Unit following consultations with the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Clinical Services Networks, the Head of Family Health, and the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services.

The equipment provided includes an ultrasound machine, an ECG machine to monitor mothers’ heartbeat, CTG fetal monitors to track babies’ heartbeats, infusion pumps to safely provide fluids to intensive care patients, photo-therapy equipment to detect jaundice in infants, and 90 stethoscopes.

Australia is pleased to collaborate with the Ministry of Health in Fiji to improve the quality of primary care clinics for antenatal, postnatal and newborn care.
