The Australian Government in partnership with the Education Ministry has supported families impacted by COVID-19 by subsidising school canteen lunches for 1,441 students in most need.

The Australian High Commission in Fiji says lunch has been provided to students across 76 schools in the Central and Western divisions over 10 weeks.

The High Commission says border closures in March 2020 and associated financial hardships meant that many families had difficulty providing lunch for their children, often preventing them from resuming their education.

They say together, they can ensure that these senior students have the opportunity to complete their studies and achieve their potential, despite the challenges they all face.

Meanwhile, Minister for Education Premila Kumar says schools will be able to buy lunch for students who do not bring lunch to school from the school canteen.
