Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is urging lawyers to specialize as he says there is now enough spheres of law being developed where lawyers can specialize.

While speaking during the Annual Attorney General’s Conference, Sayed-Khaiyum says most lawyers in Fiji are general practitioners.

Sayed-Khaiyum further says it would appear to him that most of the lawyers in private practice seem to be fighting for the same crumbs and missing out on the cream.

He adds he has said it repeatedly there is opportunity in specialization.

Sayed-Khaiyum also says if the lawyers read the Climate Change Act - purely from an economic perspective, there is an opportunity to make money from it.

He says there is now going to be trading of carbon and it has got propriety rights.

Sayed-Khaiyum adds there are so many opportunities but people are sticking to what they call the traditional areas of law.
