220 Police recruits have been reminded by the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew to humble themselves and know that the uniform they wear, which represents authority and power and should be used for good.
While officially opening the Batch 66 Basic Recruits Course Training at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova, the Acting Commissioner says they marched in last Sunday and the gates are still open if they want to leave because at the Police Force, they need officers that will remain fully committed to the policing profession.
Chew also reiterated the need to respect and maintain the integrity of the policing profession.
He says that uniform does not represent the authority to abuse, corrupt or use for personal gain.
He stressed that their uniform does not belong solely to their family, relatives, friends or acquaintances as the uniform belongs to everyone because they are here to serve every one equally without prejudice or favour.
The Acting Commissioner says if they remain humble and keep close to their heart the core values of policing with the firm understanding that they are accountable for all their actions, he can guarantee that they will have a long, prosperous and distinguished policing career.
The 220 recruits include candidates from the open recruitment drive, absorbed police constables and ten officers from the Tuvalu police service.
The training for Batch 66 is expected to end in mid-December.
