Acting COMPOL confirms $2 billion meth came from Mexico and was bound for Australia
Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew

Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew confirms that they allowed a police team from Nausori to conduct the biggest methamphetamine busts in Nadi earlier this year after they conducted operations and established that a large amount of meth from Mexico was in the west and destined for Australia.

While answering questions during the Ministry of Home Affairs Talanoa Session on Responding To Illicit Drugs Situation in Fiji, Chew says they gathered intelligence from various sources before the $2 billion meth busts, and they would also like to work with the Fiji Navy to detect what is happening out in the high seas.

When asked on whether there were suspicions within the team in the Eastern Division not to get the information leaked on the upcoming drug busts in Nadi resulting in the cross border operations, Chew admits there are issues and they need credible evidence.

Most of the meth was found in a house that was under construction for years in Legalega, Nadi.

A Counter Strategy Plan is being put together by the Ministry of Home Affairs today to take to the cabinet soon with a planned and coordinated response to the drugs situation in Fiji.
