ANZ offices and branches across the Pacific will turn off their lights at 8.30pm tomorrow as part of Earth Hour, a global grassroots movement in support of the environment.

ANZ Regional Executive for the Pacific, Sarah Stubbings says the effects of climate change are felt most acutely in the Pacific Islands, and this is giving the Pacific a stronger collective voice on the global stage.

Stubbings says Earth Hour is about more than one hour with no power.

She says it sets a challenge to each of us to step up and make sustainable lifestyle changes.

As part of this, they are also encouraging people to make small changes at home, in a show of support for the planet - things like unplugging idle electronics, leaving their cars at home, taking shorter showers and rethinking their home cooling habits.

The ANZ Regional Executive for the Pacific says as a leading sustainable finance bank, they hope to help accelerate the transition to more sustainable forms of energy in a really impactful way, not only for their customers, but for the region as a whole.
