A lot more people are back at work in Denarau which is seeing a lot of business activity following the opening of the borders in December last year.

Denarau Corporation Limited General Manager Nezbitt Hazelman says all shops at the port have opened up and hotels are fully booked.

Hazelman further says they made a number of strategic decisions in the 22 months when business was down because of COVID and one of that was improving the roads and infrastructure.

The General Manager also says while they are careful in terms of the COVID-19 protocols, they are also very mindful that they keep the island open.

Hazelman says they need to work with the stakeholders to ensure the island remains a safe destination for both locals and tourists.

He adds some infrastructural development is expected to begin in two to three years that were put on hold because of COVID which include a few hotels and residential properties.
